Comment CBC Conducted an Interview with (Score 1) 313

Hi,
I was listening to another member of the RepRap team, Adrian Bowyer, speak on the radio (actually podcast) today. He is a lecturer at the University of Bath and give some insights into the project. The interview has a great bit when he explains his motivations for open sourcing the project. You can listen to the interview on CBC's Spark website.

Enjoy,

Submission + - Demonoid torrent tracker site shut down by CRIA 1

An anonymous reader writes: As of Tuesday, 25th September 2007, Demonoid is currently down, with no prior warnings from any moderators of the site. Both the main torrent page and the forum (fora) are no longer accessible. It is still possible to ping and trace the IP address of the site and it locates itself as in Canada. As of 6:45pm EST on 9-25-07, SSH and SMTP services are no longer active. Torrentfreak.com has since reported this is due to legal actions from the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) who ordered Demonoid's ISP to shut down the site.

Fermilab.

Check out "The God Particle" by Leon Lederman, which mentions the fact that it was on budget.

I'd say that it has exceeded expectations, especially considering the fact that folks expected to have a supercollider built later on.

One example, and possibly not what you were considering, but it was a pretty bold statement.

I expected this reponse, of course, but you are missing something..like the point of the site. If the Net and the Web can be used to communicate content like books apart from entities like big publishes, big media (big software manufacturers), that's very newsworthy. I want other people who create content to understand how this could work.So I think you are missing something. There are many better venues to promote a dog book than on Slashdot, but I really feel strongly that writers, artists, individuals, etc. should understand that mailing lists, blogs, etc. are a huge opportunity to bypass the big company/big media marketing systems. To me, that's a big OS idea, the reason I came to write for the site in the first. It's essential that this message get out, I think,as so many music writers, book writers, etc., are not able to deal with big marketing realities.
