the anti-smoking laws are great, want to protect environment (no native Californian is "anti-environment"), and are strong defenders of state's rights It makes us more moderate than the rest of the party, but sometimes the rest of the party's message makes it hard for us to get through to people and win elections (not that the CA GOP hasn't been messed up enough recently).

Okay. I enjoy taking my family out and knowing that no matter where we go there will not be smoking. I still don't think it's right to deny a business owner the right to choose which lawful activities can take place in his or her establishment. Smoking is still somewhat legal...
Lets be honest and give up the "protect the environment" crap. You are not protecting the Earth or even close to something so noble. You are trying to prevent the environment from changing into something that is not habitable for HUMANS. You are just ensuring that the human race can stay here a little longer without adapting much. At best you are delaying the inevitable, and in so doing you might be doing more harm than good. Suppose the Earth's environment is adapting to get rid of us as part of the planet's natural progression. It you were really protecting the ENVIRONMENT, you would be helping it along. You know, by buying a big SUV or something. :)

Ehh.. it made sense back in 1986, when they started putting all of them in. In fact, it was damn progressive at the time... you could break down almost ANYWHERE in the remotest reaches of a desert state highway and, if it had them, you weren't more than a short walk from being able to call emergency services. I'm waiting for them to modify these into some sort of state-run Wifi network or other useful traffic grid system. (They're basically just solar-powered analog cell phones.)

Given. It made sense at the time. I should point out that in NY we have already begun replacing some of these with cellular antennae to supplement the state's cellular network. Talk about progressive. :)

All the major computer companies have taken large steps to reduce the environmental impact, both during production and at end-of-life

Yeah. And I've taken large steps to sober up. Twelve of them to be exact. No matter how many steps I take, the damage has been done because of lack of understanding on my part. It's better - but doesn't fix the damage already done.

Perhaps New York guacamole is, but not anything you'd get in San Diego ;)

Give me some credit here. OF COURSE I know that you can't get decent guacamole (or any other Mexican/Southwest food) in New York. Just like you can't get good Chinese in Oklahoma or Texas. I still think it is highly overrated. However, if you care to send me some of your fine San Diego guacamole I would gladly pay you on Tuesday...

Are you actually a Republican? I could have sworn I was the only one who read this site.. :)
