In bars and restaurants, prices are posted. For things like drinks, usually on a board above or near the bar.
In America, many restaurants do not post the cost of a drink. It is easer to sell a $3 bud light when you list it on the menu as bud light.
In any case the guy should send his old boss a bill. What a lame tangent to get stuck on.
