Comment TPM and Secure Boot are the problem (Score 5, Insightful) 157

If Microsoft would just remove the unnecessary TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirement I guarantee they would see wider adoption of Windows 11. I don't care what Microsoft says, those requirements are nothing more than Microsoft trying to lock PC hardware to their operating system to stifle competition from Linux.

Its going to get exponentially worse when Windows 10 goes EOL in October 2025. Thanks to Microsoft's ridiculous TPM and Secure Boot requirements for Windows 11. Basically any computer made before 2017 is going to be useless for anything other thank Linux. And most of the planet doesn't know how to use Linux. So that's about a billion computers going to landfills soon.

You have to love how their principal argument is that social media sites should be treated as a public utility. But when Democrats proposed treating the Internet like a public utility (Net Neutrality) they thought that was government over reach and have killed that idea every time they have power. The hypocrisy of Republicans has no bottom.

Comment Re:Drop your stupid system requirements (Score 1) 118

Moden Intel and AMD CPU's have TPM 2.0 built into them so you only need to use an add-on TPM if you want to. The issue is Secure Boot. If you want to dual boot Windows 11 with a Linux distribution that doesn't support Secure Boot you will have to go into the bios and disable Secure Boot each time you want to boot Linux. It's an idiot requirement that should not be forced upon us. Secure Boot is a good thing, but it should not be required to run Windows 11. It's nothing but a power grab by Microsoft to lock down your computer to their OS.

Comment E-Recycling is mostly a scam (Score 3, Interesting) 48

I used to take all my e-waste the recyclers, but found out that the vast majority of these e-recycle facilities are just businesses that scrape off the gold and other precious metals in the electronics and throw all the rest in the land fill, it's basically a scam. Maybe not all do this but if you find a e-waste facility and they don't take certain items like old CRT's TV's then its a scam. The reason they don't take CRT's is because there is nothing of value in them they can take.

My company had an old 1997 Pentium 3 running windows 98. It was used for an ancient billing software that could not be replaced. I finally convinced them to let me migrate it over to a VM last month. However it was still running strong on all the original parts when I retired it. The only tricky part was that it could only print to a serial LPT1/2 port. I just decided to buy a parallel port card and pass it through directly to the VM.

What is so hilarious about the SCOTUS decision on prayer regarding the football coach is that the Bible specifically states what the coach is doing is a no no lol. Matthew 6 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen, Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

This ^, a 1000 times this. You can like it or hate it, but the Blue states basically have been subsidizing the remarkably unproductive red states for years now. They include West Virginia, Mississippi, Alaska, Montana, Kentucky, Alabama, Arizona and Louisiana.
