M.U.L.E. Is Back 110

jmp_nyc writes "The developers at Turborilla have remade the 1983 classic game M.U.L.E. The game is free, and has slightly updated graphics, but more or less the same gameplay as the original version. As with the original game, up to four players can play against each other (or fewer than four with AI players taking the other spots). Unlike the original version, the four players can play against each other online. For those of you not familiar with M.U.L.E., it was one of the earliest economic simulation games, revolving around the colonization of the fictitious planet Irata (Atari spelled backwards). I have fond memories of spending what seemed like days at a time playing the game, as it's quite addictive, with the gameplay seeming simpler than it turns out to be. I'm sure I'm not the only Slashdotter who had a nasty M.U.L.E. addiction back in the day and would like a dose of nostalgia every now and then."

Submission + - Rockstar to tell 'Ballad of Gay Tony' in 'GTA IV' (usatoday.com)

viyh writes: "Players will assume the role of an assistant to legendary nightclub owner "Gay Tony" in the upcoming downloadable episode for Grand Theft Auto IV this fall.

Like previous episode The Lost and Damned, released earlier this year, The Ballad of Gay Tony will arrive exclusively for the Xbox 360, says a statement from publisher Rockstar Games.

Players control Luis Lopez, a "part-time hoodlum" and assistant to Tony Prince, known by the nickname "Gay Tony."

"The team at Rockstar North have yet again surpassed themselves, and made something that is both epic and very innovative," says Rockstar founder Sam Houser in a statement. "This episode's focus on high-end night life contrasts with the biker gangs portrayed in The Lost and Damned, whilst giving us a lot of new gameplay possibilities.""

Submission + - Sony Rumored to Debut Wiimotelike Controller at E3 (1up.com)

Anenome writes: "Previously we saw a Microsoft patent on a Wiimote-like device, now rumors say that Sony too has a Wiimote-like device in the works. This isn't surprising, given how dominant the Nintendo's Wii proved to be in this hardware generation. However, many gaming-geeks continue to lament the move away from plain old button-pressing. What is exciting is the prospect that all three companies may incorporate Johnny Lee-style head-tracking into the next console generation which achieves a convincing 3D illusion on a regular vid-screen, leaving us just a few steps away from true positional 3D. Both the Microsoft and Sony patents incorporate a camera looking at the user, a setup required to achieve positional head-tracking."

Re-imagined Silent Hill Announced 63

Konami has announced that a new Silent Hill game, titled Shattered Memories, is due out this fall for the Wii, PS2, and PSP. "While the game shares its twisting plot with the original PlayStation game, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories takes a different path in many, many ways. Characters can be approached but will offer different responses and be found in different places, while new clues and gameplay paths can be followed." The Wii version will make full use of the Wii Remote, taking the role of both phone and torch, as well as being used to "pick up, examine and manipulate items to solve puzzles along the journey." According to the Opposable Thumbs blog, the choice not to develop for the PS3 and Xbox 360 was due to the development costs associated with those consoles.

Submission + - More IT Pros Could Turn To E-Crime In Poor Economy (infoworld.com)

snydeq writes: "Companies increasingly feel their employees will be more willing to steal data or sell insider knowledge due to the poor economy, according to an annual security survey conducted by KPMG. Sixty-six percent of respondents felt that out-of-work IT workers would be tempted to join the criminal underground, driven in part by threats to bonuses, job losses, and worthless stock options. In the survey, KPMG said that fraud committed by managers, employees and customers tripled compared to 2007, which indicates that the recession will likely only exacerbate those problems, leaving many companies wondering how best to defuse the threat of disgruntled IT."
