As I understand, different spreading codes would be needed to separate different networks on PHY layer.
However, the 802.11 DS PHY only uses one single chipping sequence (= spreading code), the 11-bit Barker word. There is no separation of channels on PHY level. This is in contrast to CDMA-based cellular networks, where an indiviual spreading code is used for each user-to-cell connection.
