This is so opaque I don't think users will ever know what their data is being used for across all the megaplatforms. The data doesn't even have to be stored very long for AI, just used in training. Where the data is physically is becoming less relevant since accessing it is so accessible to anyone with a few bucks, regardless of "demands". It is almost guaranteed these days that the companies we use daily are trying to evade preserving privacy as much as possible for monetization in many other ways. We barely see the curtain, much less pull it back.

Comment RISC-V and the future (Score 0, Troll) 104

RISC-V is open source, not based in the US, and has the potential to completely change the economics of the processor market. This is why the U.S. government considers the technology a threat to national security and may try to suppress its adoption. There is a lot of fear around China having a first class processor option to produce. The processor architecture should perform as well anything else given the right foundry, so it seems possible that if the folks at AheadComputing have some innovative ideas, they might actually be able to leap ahead a bit. Changing the market is another story though, and it's hard to picture much change anytime soon.

Is this not whining at it's best? Swearing must make it seem important. Human expression in filesystems? Sure. The reason PC's and Windows started with case insensitivity is that back in the day it was almost impossible to support pcs and having every command line in mixed case is a nightmare on the phone. You may not like it, but any OS with an X at the end was generally considered to be a support nightmare back then. Has much changed today?

Wars are won through logistics and technology. Money should be allocated appropriately. Maybe this is appropriate, we'll never know. I believe not trusting the mainstream media due to bias is naive. All reporting is biased. Small nobodies reporting are even more biased and frequently based on lies put out there on the net. This is not a right or left thing. Some outlets lie, some omit, some pretend to know the truth, other are trying to make up the truth. I believe the third estate SHOULD be biased. Talk truth to power. Put it all out there and let people decide. Don't let money or politicians rule the news cycle. Lots of what is being proposed in terms of censorship these days is pure socialism. Most people don't even get that, so as much information as possible would be useful if we expect people to think critically.

It would be great to save this bit of history for the future. It is an irreplaceable relic that probably won't degrade too much over time. This description of Recall sounds like they are feeding everything you do into an LLM that is supposed to help you. Every bad response to Recall is completely approriate IMHO and I also have wonder if MS takes all this knowlege for their own purposes somehow. Can they export the AI digested version of this and claim it's not the original screenshots, actions etc.? I would love to know what MS gets out of this if someone have some info. I can't see how Recall is a "feature" and I doubt it's for the users.

After some kind of technological singularity, "artificial" and biological intelligence will both advance rapidly and likely will merge and become indistinguishable from each other. This is what we are working on already so imagine what will be going on 1000 years from now. The advantageous trait inherited from AI is the ability to be copied at will and the ability to be transmitted between suitable supporting hardware. Advanced beings would have these capabilities and so therefore could travel at the speed of light to multiple places simultaneously. The problem is a being will need a host of some sort to be transmitted to. It may be the only way to handle this would be to physically move the host to the location wanted. Of course, being immortal, the beings would have plenty of time to wait for such a delivery. When all this is accomplished, beings can move around between locations, stay awhile using one host, and then move on to another place at the speed of light. One useful type of host would be one that could fly around and help support whatever reason the being has for interstellar travel. This flying host would look like a UFO to us. In this case the UFO is the alien. We will not find beings inside. It seems unlikely a host would be left intact if something happened to one since the occupant will be long gone. This concept basically is like a rental car pool for interstellar light speed travelers. I have no idea why they would want to contact us.
