Why could the universe not be BOTH eternal AND be characterized by continuous creation? For instance, say the Big Bang Theory holds true. If you understand the life cycle of stars, at some point in time, will there not be enough black holes and 'negative energy' in the universe to make it contract (the opposite of the Big Bang)? Now assume the possibility that with this contraction, comes an increase in the density, energy, and overall temperature of the universe. At some point, the same conditions will be possible for yet ANOTHER Big Bang, a time of infinite density, energy, and temperature. Granted, this would be impossible to prove, since everything that existed in the previous existance of the universe would be destroyed in the time period of infinite density, etc. But I believe this is the case. For the universe to be eternal does not mean that human life has to be eternal. Our time has come, and our time will pass, just like any other dominating species. Too often we base our assumptions about the existence of the world around us and the universe on our species itself, or our "God" that "created" us...
