Not so... SDF:Macross pretty much has the same animation errors in it than the copied over Robotech. Although you get a few more clips in the origional Japanese series of SDF:Macross, the overwhelming dispute of "which is better" is highly overrated [but, who could forgot Miliya throwing her child across the room --certainly a classic].
What I don't get about this whole Cartoon Network running is their choice of selections from the Robotech Series. They plan to play the very first episode, Boobytrap, from the Macross Saga, then the very last 2 episodes from the New Generation.
First of all, there are three sagas to Robotech, and one would assume that playing one episode from each of the series would be the most logical. However, they skipped over the horrindously animated Robotech Masters saga [en Japanese: Southern Cross]
Next, if you're goign to show any of the New Generation, it certainly should not be the last two espisodes.. which we're horribly done. I understand the importance of the anime preview, focusing on "Giant Robots", and this decision detracts from that ideal.
Lastly, Why aren't they showing the best all-time episode of the whole Robotech series, Force of Arms. It details the human desparation to survive, even though they lost all hope with Earth being laid to watse. They could only succeed by using the power of Love and Music to lay waste to a considerable part of the fleet. The episode itself has swelled my heart every time I watch it. Even when I listen to the music number that caused the vitory in my car, I can't help but shed more than a few tears. ..In essence, Cartoon Network comes out to be yet another disappointment.
