I really wish users would stop treating technology like it's magic. I've said this before and I'll say it again. If you bought a nightstand from Walmart, the typical citizen would not consent to Walmart coming in every day to rifle through the contents of this nightstand to see if there was anything on their "objectionable" list. Now, if the nightstand magically transported the contents to a warehouse, that'd be understandable. But the company that you bought from or made the device going through your things? In any other scenario outside of tech in the United States this would not be allowed without a search warrant. It doesn't matter if Google does it or Microsoft does it or BargainBinStorage does it, they're doing it on the servers. Apple is going through your personal device looking for questionable content, even if it's by "hash". Do we really think that there will never be an errors in these searches? Of course not. Nothing in the world is 100%, including scanning for hashes. Apple only cares about privacy when it contributes to profit. It's incredibly disheartening.
