Comment Check on Power (Score 1) 16

The founders knew that government could not be trusted and put checks on power. Information has always been power so if the government knows who you associate with, where you go everyday (your cellphone already tracks that), what you buy and where, your monetary resources, and all your communications, and we as citizens allow this to happen without objecting to the slow erosion of our liberties we are giving the government the tools to become a totalitarian state. Maybe the current or next administration does not fully utilize this power but we as Americans should not place our trust in government. We should be vigilant in questioning authority. That is our role as citizens. History has repeatedly shown that those in authority will seek to increase their power. No leader or government willingly gives up authority and power so the people must moderate the power government has over them. It is the founding vision of the USA.
