The megaraid cards are not true hardware raid. They are more like software raid running on a pci card. It's kind of like those softmodems from back in the day. Most of the emulation was actually hardware based. I believe support for these type of cards was dropped when we went to the 2.6 kernel. I would recommend and LSI Logic or 3Ware RAID card. They work much better.
