This is amazing that people are actually out and out blaming one group or another, it's BOTH of their damn faults. These companies got into the habit of loaning money to anyone with a pulse, on houses that were clearly overvalued, and the lendees got into situations they should have known better than to get into. They borrowed more than they could afford, and rightly got reamed, but can anyone seriously not fault the financial institutions for not thinking any of this through. It's out and out greed in the part of the companies, they saw all this potential money out there, and someone probably expected that they would get bailed out if the worst came to pass (which clearly it did). And for the "lower and middle class" some of it was just plain stupidity, some of it was living above their means, and some of it was greed, no one reason is correct for every situation.
