New taxes are always sold on some promise of enriching current government programs. Today, the promise is people "disenfranchised by the coronavirus."
Let's say a tax like this is passed. Where will the money go? Will the revenue go to help the poor GROUP_XYZ? Or, will that revenue be re-allocated to budget of the latest bridge-to-nowhere?
More likely, out of 10 remote workers, only 1 of them would have that extra 5% going to help people. The rest of them would be giving up that extra 5% to fund other portions of the government's budget. In countries like America, this WFH tax would end up being passed to prevent cuts to military and defense.
