It's just Americans had been exposed to only two such cycles from. While any European can name about a dozen offhand.

While then-not-USA first sorta fought hunters-gatherers, Europe was in constant was since forever. There is no concept of "first nations" in europe/asia precisely because we know our history and it was constant unrelenting struggle who will kill whom first. It is why would-be americans fled to America in the first place.

OSM once led me to a 100m sheer drop claiming there was a path down. There was, sort of, if you were rigged for alpinism, ie, enough ropes and stuff.

This lead to me passing the night at 600m elevation in bushes listening to local marriage in the valley and then watching the Orion slowly rise over the opposing ridge.

All in all it was beautiful and a lesson to be prepared more.

I don't get why you think there is any "conundrum". WFH, or better, WFE = from elsewhere was a trend way before COVID, I went to 90-95% WFE by 2012. Sure there are some tasks that are better solved on-site, but they are few, and some planning wrt visits does it.

2012 was the year I just went for summer from the same city as the office was in to some village 800km away and did not even told anyone, it was already that seamless and expected.

well, in past 15 years about all old railroad-carrying bridges in Moscow, RF were replaced by this exact technique. Dense city, paying attention to what's underneath because a city is 3D and all.

This is not in any way impressive. It's business as usual: well-known, well-practiced method that most boneheaded drunk contractors from philipines can still get right and not even remember it. The last part of not remembering is what you as engineer in charge of project is hired to do. Shit'd gotta work no matter what.

IIRC that method was used from at least 1950s. Precision matters, but control is simple because it is by hydraullic jacks pushing the new frame very slowly. 500m could have been of note if it was a single span while pushed, no intermediate supports, but it was not.

Chinese (well, actually DE and NL on CN soil) achived much more spectacular results.

You sanction nations, not people, otherwise it's "racism". It is also pointless because people in general do not influence policy short-term, for that you have to hit elites. But you can't because that'd be opening season on yourself.

So it's all empty posturing also known as international law.
