The patch on www.uglx.org should work fine against the driver that's in RedHat 6.1. You definitely want to have "Use DMA if available" enabled. With the latest versions of the various drivers and a correct PCMCIA config, my Z505S seems to be working pretty well--no more CS-related hangs... I agree that closed hardware designs are annoying. I don't personally understand Neomagic's rationale, unless they were planning on selling the "rights" to develop drivers for their hardware, or some such nonsense; it would be interesting to hear their views on the subject. But as long as they have to release any sort of driver for the hardware, it'll be possible to write others.
