Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory are trying to develop autonomous software-based robots, dubbed "cybots," for network monitoring and defense. "A cybot is intended to work with other cybots, continue their mission or regenerate when necessary," says Joe Trien, one of the developers on the Ubiquitous Network Transient Autonomous Mission Entities (UNTAME) project.
