Couple Funds Honeymoon With Recyclables 38

John and Ann Till, from Petersfield, in Hampshire, spent three months collecting recyclables to pay for their honeymoon flights. The couple earned one reward point, which they converted into BA air miles, for every four items they recycled. In the end, they amassed 36,000 miles. Mr Till, 31, a railways communications manager, said, "We wanted to make our honeymoon special and were trying to think of ways to raise money for it. I saw on the machine that you got a Tesco Clubcard point for every four items you put in. For every 250 points you got 600 British Airways miles. We worked out that it would be possible to turn rubbish into our flights — as long as we had enough."

Simple Device Claimed To Boost Fuel Efficiency By Up To 20% 674

Ponca City, We love you writes "Temple University physics professor Rongjia Tao has developed a simple device that could dramatically improve fuel efficiency in automobiles by as much as 20 percent. The device, attached to the fuel line of a car's engine near the fuel injector, creates an electric field that thins fuel, reducing its viscosity so that smaller droplets are injected into the engine. Because combustion starts at the droplet surface, smaller droplets lead to cleaner and more efficient combustion. Six months of road testing in a diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz automobile showed an increase from 32 miles per gallon to 38 mpg, a 20 percent boost, and a 12-15 percent gain in city driving. 'We expect the device will have wide applications on all types of internal combustion engines, present ones and future ones,' Tao wrote in the study published in Energy & Fuels. 'This discovery promises to significantly improve fuel efficiency in all types of internal combustion engine powered vehicles and at the same time will have far-reaching effects in reducing pollution of our environment,' says Larry F. Lemanski, Senior Vice President for Research and Strategic Initiatives at Temple."

Terminal lurker can't stay quiet this time, I present Exhibit A: Roger Culver, tenured professor of astronomy at Colorado State University, has been married for quite some time to an astrologer. Here's the kicker: they met on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Opposites attract in the most severe case, yet there are quite a few similarities. I realize this article is more relevant to "should they or shouldn't they," but these two did and have been happy for quite some time. They are two of the nicest (and nuttiest...) people I have ever met, I was a student of his for some time in the late 90's. In a completely bizarre twist of fate (nay, twas in the heavens...), the Rocky Mountain Collegian has a complete article TODAY (3/10/08) on their marriage and life together:

Nice people, but I am a complete skeptic. I obviously doesn't deter them, though.
