Yes, I do the same to eliminate the seemingly false results showing "Legit website" on MSN . com when it is MSN and not the legit website. Facebook, of course, also encourages MSN stories and I never click on them when someone shares those. If I want to go to MSN for any reason, I can do so without being manipulated.

Comment Self-checkout preferred (Score 1) 316

I didn't like self-checkout at first and avoided it, but got used to it at Target to the extent that I prefer it everywhere it is available now. At our Target, the line to self-checkout is long, but it is clear that it goes much faster than the alternative even when those lines are shorter. At the grocery store, the line can be so long that a shopping aisle is filled with customers waiting to check themselves out - and there is an employee manning the self-checkout area as well for those who need help.

That's a terrible idea; leave existing programs alone and don't dispense money in a publicly known way. Rents would rise, as well as other costs, eating up the whole "giveaway". It is a giveaway to those who benefit from a trickle-up income. Our rent has risen by $581 since 2012, and most of the continuous increases began at exactly the same time as the first dollar increase in minimum wage. It went up twice before November 2019, the last time by $96. And *that* was in preparation for the 2020 rent control bill. Want to help people? PG&E bills have more than doubled so that we the customers can pay for the company negligence - how about giving away money to them ( why not, if they are legally allowed to do as they do?) that they will steal from us - and force the rates back down? Giveways would be okay if the recipients were the actual recipients of them!

That Facebook app that I can't remove and appears to be disabled is the reason that I do not use financial/banking apps, and do not have even my name - much less other identity info, on my phone. I suppose pictures could be exploited somehow. I don't make app or any other purchases on the phone, either, and don't have a payment method at the Play Store..

Comment California violates privacy (Score 1) 62

I've found that the State of California in general violates privacy, and more than the federal government. The DMV seems to operate according to the term "quasi-statutory" inasmuch as it behaves as though it can act above California law. I had to do a legal name change some years ago solely for the DMV, as it would not renew my driver's license unless the name on it matched my Social Security card name. The SSA required no such thing to accept the name I'd been using for years. I also found that the Employment Development Department website alters an uploaded resume that shows a PO Box address, revealing a residential address to anyone looking at the resume. Knowing these things, I will not be getting a California Real ID, but a passport instead.

I got locked out of my Facebook account around 4 years ago, and government ID was demanded of me. Because I will not give such information, I could not recover my account. Comment Tweakers (Score 1) 616

I'd guess that the "tweaking" of the bill was to find a way for the students to provide money to the education system while being "home-schooled". Multiple-family home school and independent study may both be a way for the system not to lose money from those who defect over the vaccination issue. I think one of the most significant things about this debate is how it has changed views and compliance rates, and likely continues to do so. Vaccination has always been required in order to attend public school, and relatively few have opted out. I think we will see greater numbers of opt-outs because of the tyrannical, offensive nature of those who do not simply support - but insist by force, adherence to their science. It's beyond assault in a supposedly free country. And though I've read to the contrary and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. aside, I think it is the liberals that much more fully support vaccines and lack of choice in the matter of vaccines for self or one's children. Wonder if this will be an issue of interest at election time? Big enough to push people to the Republicans? The horror! (I am not a Repub and voted twice for Obama)
