After a flight lasting 12 hours 59 minutes at an altitude of 12,400 feet, using no fuel and propelled by solar energy alone, Solar Impulse HB-SIA landed safely in Brussels, Switzerland.

After the landing, plane's co-founder Bertrand Piccard said:

Our goal is to create a revolution in the minds of the people . . . to promote solar energies — not necessarily a revolution in aviation.

Compared with 2003, energy efficiency has increased from 16 to 22 percent. And the cells are now half as thick.

The project has a total cost of $88 million which is funded by mostly-Swiss partners and public donations."

liqs8143 writes: "Astronomers from United States have begun searching for alien life on 86 possible earth like planets. A massive radio telescope that listens for signs of alien life is being used for this project. These 86 planets are short-listed from 1235 possible planets detected by NASA's Kepler telescope.

The mission is part of the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) project, launched in the mid 1980s.

A giant dish pointing towards each of the 86 planets will gather 24 hours of data, starting from this week. A total of 42 telescope dishes, known as Allen Telescope Array (ATA) cost 50 million dollar."

liqs8143 writes: "Of the 20 million minors who actively used Facebook in the past year, 7.5 million of them were younger than 13, according to projections from Consumer Reports’ latest State of the Net survey. Facebook’s terms of service require users to be at least 13 years old.

Also among this group of minors using Facebook, more than 5 million were 10 and under. Consumer Reports survey found that their accounts were largely unsupervised by their parents, exposing them to malware or serious threats such as predators or bullies."

liqs8143 writes: "Peugeot EX1, the all-electric concept car now holds the electric car lap record at Germany's Nürburgring circuit. The car was unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, and has already broken half a dozen speed records up till now.
Despite wet weather, Ex1 broke the existing record with a time of 9 minutes and 1.338 seconds, beating the previous record set by modified MINI E electric car, by almost 50 seconds. The 340 horsepower EX1 averaged an impressive 85.9 miles per hour during the lap."
