I too grew up with the Shuttle. I watched the first one with my then 6 day old son! He and his wife recently had a baby boy. It is sad that he was not able to watch the last one with his son. Maybe there will be other such launches of some other space vehicle for them to watch together.
One way to win back my business is to make IEx behave EXACTLY like FF!. Then maybe I wont have to work extra hours when some little known "feature" in IEx decides not to work. One stop shopping for all your JavaScript and CSS needs!
Can NetFlix be far behind? I would be nice if they would now switch to something else so that I could view my Instant View queue on my Ubuntu box without having to launch the !@#$% VM for XP!
Right on! I have been trying to convince my Network guy of just this very same thing. Centralized computing was thought to be a dumb idea a decade or so ago so everybody switched to a desktop environment. Now we are told that we should switch back to an environment that would essentially be the same thing. Still a bad idea!

tekgoblin writes "Wow, I would never have thought to try and cook food with the power that a standard USB port provides, but someone did. A standard port provides 5V of power, give or take a little. I am not even sure what it takes to heat a small hotplate, but I am sure it is more than 5V. It looks like the guy tied together around 30 USB cables powered by his PC to power this small hotplate. But believe it or not, it seems to have cooked the meat perfectly."

jerryjamesstone writes "Everybody is into rail these days; it is the greenest way to get around next to a bike. Leonid Mulyanchik has been into it for years since before the Berlin Wall fell, since before the first Macintosh, building his own private underground Metro railway system. English-Russia says that he has been doing it with his pension, that it is all legal and approved and that he is still at it. Gizmodo calls it 'Partly the traditional, inspiring, one man against all odds type of persistence, but more the obsessive, borderline insane persistence.'"Update: 06/02 07:33 GMT by T: And if you're the type to visit Burning Man, you can actually ride a home-made monorail this summer, too.

Cwix writes "A new law proposed in Belarus would require all net users and online publications to register with the state: 'Belarus' authoritarian leader is promising to toughen regulation of the Internet and its users in an apparent effort to exert control over the last fully free medium in the former Soviet state. He told journalists that a new Internet bill, proposed Tuesday, would require the registration and identification of all online publications and of each Web user, including visitors to Internet cafes. Web service providers would have to report this information to police, courts, and special services.'"
Amen! Whenever my boss asks me how long it will take to develop a web page, I first ask him if he wants it to work in IE. If he says yes, I double the time estimate!!!!! So for every hour I spend code JS for FF I spend another hour "fixing" it for IE.
They should put a "compatibility button" in this version as well to make it compatible with FF. Do they even run FF to see what a great browser can do?
