UC Santa Cruz graduate student here. UCSC was the start of the strike due to the rather high cost of living here. The strike wasn't successful because we didn't get a sufficiently good deal, and the strike was terminated early because the other UCs grew tired of the strike and voted to just accept the UC's offer to get things over with. There are allegations of misconduct on the UAW leadership's behalf that influenced the election results, and an appeal is currently being processed.
The 3060 is a defective 3070, which is a defective 3080, which is a defective 3090, which is a previous-gen card, yet they're charging over $4k for this?
What Microsoft has been doing with WSL sounds more like Windows-based Linux, not Linux-based Windows. I doubt it means we're going to see Windows based on the Linux kernel.
npm is by far the largest repository of javascript (specifically nodejs) packages—so much so that it's as though no alternatives exist. (I sure can't think of any.) You might as well advise an iPhone user not to install apps through the App Store or a Linux user not to use their distro's package manager. Avoiding npm isn't an option.
