We got back our health check results. Actually, I am thoroughly disappointed at it.

For THREE whole test tubes of blood, they only tested like 13 items. I mean, if you are going to skimp on all the protein tests and antibody tests (like hepatitis / HIV / etc), you'd at least take a little less blood, eh?

bastardly vampires.

hmm... maybe that's why they took so much blood. Now I feel dirty.

In any case, the only cool stuff I could find on the blood test was the liver functions portion. I didn't pay much attention until now, but there are three items, AST (10-40), ALT (5-45), and gamma-GTP (16-73).

The neat thing is that gamma-GTP tends to become high if you are a moderate to heavy drinker. Maybe chronic (regular?) drinker would qualify too. My gamma-GTP hovers at 17 (one point away from the low normality boundary). I guess complete abstinence from alcohol does have some its rewarding moments. I mean, maybe not to make up for all the missed chance at all the casual no-attachment sex in college, but it's better than nothing.

The only other thing that I was surprised to find was a normal reading for blood-sugar content. Without breakfast and having the blood taken after a 5k in the morning, I was expecting the blood suger level to be bottomed out. Error in the readings? I mean after all the blood was mostly going to the thirsty throats of the underworld...

Ok, I will stop fantasizing. I must have been reading way more Megatokyo than I really should have in a single day.

  • I'm amazed this stuff is legal over there. If people tried that over here, they would be screaming discrimination left and right. "I got fired because I wasn't health enough" and so on.

Perhaps thats why they didn't do HIV, Hepatitis, etc. testing?

    • My understanding is that hepatitis is a common occurance in Asia, though maybe not so much in Japan...

Either way, though - age / sex / whatever discrimination is not legal in Japan either, but it certainly does not seem to be one of the better enforced laws...

Though, I must say that there is a higher than usual amount of married women working where I am, which is both surprising and encouraging.

I know you're not talking about your time at IIT, right??? Anyway, didn't you have a girlfriend through most of your time in school?

Would you rather us vampires snuck up on you and bit your neck?
    • as far as I know there is considerable pleasant foreplay involved in the feeding rituals - until the bitter end, anyhow.

hey, everything comes at a cost - for all the damn needle poking I was seriously hoping to get some results on hepatitis antibodies (got vaccinated a while back, wanted to see if antibodies was generated)
