The guide book lied, or I have some serious problem with english now days.
I quote "... even in winter, any snow that falls on the Tanzawa (äæ) range soon melts, making this area an excellent choice for winter hiking." I figured that this would mean "no snow on top," but apparently it was completely the other way around. Some parts of the intended trail reportedly had up-to-waist height of snow, and I had to change my route, cutting about 7km and ~500m of vertical ascent out of the second day.
Consequentially, I am sore but not in the "I can't move" fashion, which I think is not sore enough.
The view, however, was an indisputablly beautiful one. I saw both the sunset and the sunrise; the former toward and setting behind the snow-clad Mt. Fuji, and the sunrise from Tokyo-side, bathing the entire city (and all of us) in a orange glow. The only regret was that the moments of tranquility was so short for such a great deal of work.
How was it a lot of work? well, the trip to the mountain was almost 5 hours, for a mere 100km or so. Part of the route goes straight east into Shibuya (æè), which means traffic congestion day and night. The train would have comparatively taken about 3 hours, relieving me of 1700yen in the process.
The more interesting aspect of the weekend trip was meeting a group of non-japanese at the top of the mountain. Apparently because Tanzawa is so close to Tokyo (and Tokyo is highly concentrated with foreigners, or at least much more so than where I am), many people from there come up. During the World Cup a while back, the place was crawling with people from all over the world.
I can't think of what to say because the pictures really says a lot more than what I am able to describe. It's a terrible shame that no posting of anything beside text and links here, though.

Since you can post links, why not links to pictures? If you have no hosting space, I could perhaps help you out with that. A pic or two accompanying your updates would be great!

At the mean time, if you want to see picts I can send you some, actually. (don't post emails here "straight," though.)

In a month from now I believe the situation will have cleared up a little bit and it will be easier for me to host files. I do have access to one server at another location however, and provided you don't have a lot (size-wise) of files you need hosted, it shouldn't be a problem hosting them there.
If you want to send a couple of images, go to www.recycler.se and click on 'kontakta oss'. At the fourth portrait image you'll find an email adress. Replace 'recycler' with 'speedmania' in the adress, and use that. Thanks!
