I am trying very hard to leave on time today. Make my way to get a sofa - try to, anyhow.
Did anybody else know that Edward Norton (as in, the spastic guy from Fight Club) speaks Japanese? probably better than me? What is this, everybody speaks japanese?
My friend who I told was only mildly interested. Sigh.
When I was driving to Costco the other day - I drove by a (the?) huge US airforce base. Around that area you can see some signs in english, and I saw a guy driving an old corvette that he no-doubtly shipped over from the states, with the driver's seat on the other side.
The base is huge. Actually that really does not do it justice: It takes about 10 minutes to drive past it. Not that I was driving very fast, but it still took a very long time. I briefly wondered if they drive on the left or the right side of the road within the compound.
In the distance I can see a huge C-130 sitting on the runway.
Mostly I disprove of the US's tendency of having a military presense / base / whatever all over the place, but I was enlightened about Japan a while ago.
If the US military was not here, Japan would be forced to arm itself (even more, that is), and countries in the region would be very unhappy about that - especially China, I think. So the only way of making sure Japan does not arm (and therefore contributing to some regional stability around here) is to have the US here. For once I am thankful that big airbase is around.

But I have been made aware of the kids in Yokohama and their craziness with DDR (my gf is into it, not so dedicated though!). All I have to say is that: wow.
It often amazes me how many Japanese people can pull this sort of thing off (or, attempt at nearness) *AND* smokes (or at least get bombarded with secondhand ones - since all game parlors are filled thick). I mean, physically demanding is one thing - physically demanding while operating on half-collapsed lungs, heh, I am sure you get the idea...
