I still am not using Wayland because KWin has some annoying bugs when it comes to focus-follows mouse behavior under Wayland I'm not sure whether KWin can fix it, or if the problem stems from Wayland's refusal to support such a thing.

Gnome also has some bugs under wayland with focus follows mouse. It is incredibly frustrating.

I use wayland on my laptop where I mostly just consume, but on my developer workstation, wayland doesn't cut it yet. I still have too many things using devilspie, wnck, and other x only tools that don't quite have replacements on wayland yet.

Submission + - Aging Linux kernel community is looking for younger participants

Lemeowski writes: Time has been good to Linux and the kernel community, with the level of participation and volume of activity reaching unprecedented levels. But as core Linux kernel developers grow older, there's a very real concern about ensuring younger generations are getting involved. In this post, Open Access supporter Luis Ibanez shares some exciting stats about recent releases of the Linux kernel, but also warns that: "Maintaining the vitality of this large community does not happen spontaneously. On the contrary, it requires dedication and attention by community members on how to bring new contributors on board, and how to train them and integrate them alongside the well-established developers."

I just got a rebate check in the mail last week. When it showed up I had no clue what it was for. It turns out that it was for an external harddrive I had purchased at CompUSA a year and a half ago! The rebate check even showed that that I had filed for the rebate on 10/14/04, and the check was dated for 06/27/06! It took them a year and a half to send me my money which I had long forgotten about !

Developer Stress Crippling Game Innovation? 355

hapwned writes "Jason Della Rocca, the executive director of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), looks at the big picture of the grim, dead-end careers of game developers. From the article: 'More fundamental is the notion that immature practices and extreme working conditions are bankrupting the industry's passion - the love for creating games that drives developers to be developers. When the average career length of the game development workforce is just over five years and over 50% of developers admit they don't plan to hang around for more than 10, we have a problem. How can an industry truly grow, and an art form evolve, if everyone is gone by the time they hit 30?'"
