Well I would prefer open-standards based web experience. Unfortunately Flash has settled among the web as a rich-content media platform used for a lot more than video streaming. If video streaming was the only thing Flash does then it would be rather easy to replace it. Furthermore often Flash performs a lot better than HTML5 in terms of speed. To give you an idea about its performance compared to HTML5 on Nexus One including HTML5 performance on iPhone 3GS, I suggest u watch this: http://vimeo.com/10553088 . Basically for all those reasons you do want to have Flash on any device which is to present rich media content.

The iPad and the Android tablets are in the works for some time now. I have always considered the idea of a phone OS on a tablet as an iffy thing due to the functionality constraints of those OSes. But if this device succeeds on the market with its amazingly limited functionality, then I think the upcoming Snapdragon-based tablets running Android would surpass it. Android is getting Flash very soon and it already has multitasking. What do you think?

You may recall last summer when we discussed Heroes of Newerth, a title from S2 Games that's based on the popular Defense of the Ancients mod from Warcraft III. We passed out some closed beta keys, and there seemed to be a ton of interest, in part due to the fact that they have a Linux client. Well, if any of you missed it or want to see how the game has progressed since then, now is your chance — the open beta begins tonight (March 31). There's a countdown on the sign-up page that shows when you can register.

Linux Reaches 32% Netbook Market Share 389

The largest share of netbook sales is in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, according to Orr. ABI's latest figures align with a statement by Dell executives in February of this year, to the effect that Linux netbooks comprised about 33% of Dell shipments of Dell Inspiron mini 9s netbooks. These data points cast doubt on claims by Microsoft that Windows XP has captured 98% of the netbook market (a figure Microsoft later revised to 93%). In an interview with DesktopLinux.com, Orr made clear that the 32% Linux netbook market share did not include either user-installed Linux or dual-boot systems, but was confined to just pre-installed Linux shipments."

Version 0.8 of FreeNAS as well as all further releases are going to be based on Linux, while the FreeBSD-based 0.7 branch of FreeNAS is going into maintenance-only mode, according to main developer Volker Theile. A discussion about the switch, including comments from the developers, can be found on the FreeNAS SourceForge discussion forum. Some users applaud the change, which promises improved hardware compatibility, while others voice concerns regarding the future of their existing setups and lack of ZFS support in Linux."

This may be what finally drives me to seriously experiment with cookie-free browsing. I consider non-personalized search results to be of value. They quasi-subconsciously give me a better perspective of the full range of information and ideas on the net. That, and I'm also a bit paranoid about a coming world with push-button infrastructure for personalized mis/disinformation."
