I underwent traditional ECT treatments. I found them to be helpful, as did the majority of others with whom I was being treated. Yes, I had short term memory loss, but it quickly subsided. Such treatment does not work well for everyone, but it appears to help the majority of those who elect to use it.
The traditional treatments actually induce seizure activity in the brain, so work differently from the proposed vagus nerve stimulator.
