There is no Play Store in China, and most if not all Google apps do not work there (lens, maps, gmail). There are many app stores, Baidu, Huawei, Tencent, Xiaomi are the most popular I think.

I had a work colleague/friend who was able to get us online while we were working in China, long before the great firewall came along. There was a very strictly enforced rule about not installing games on work computers so in a fit of boredom I started searching for online games. I started playing AnotherWorld MUD in 94 and had a great time, also MUME and another that I forget that used the inter University network that had several hundred users but it got into trouble because it was using so much transatlantic bandwidth.

I remember when internet explorer came out, before that using Lynx that could only show text. Looking at boobies on the internet was a waste of time, literally. A line a time.....

I suspect a lot of the Asda IT staff will hold their noses and stay with TCS, the job market in the UK is pretty crap unless you have some sought after skills. However after having dealt with TCS in my professional life, I can tell that this whole process is screwed from the beginning. TCS are one of the cheapest outsourcers and they just do almost everything in the cheapest low effort manner.
