AbleGamers Reviews Games From a Disability Standpoint 125

eldavojohn writes "Early last month a visually impaired gamer sued Sony under the Americans with Disabilities Act (and if you think that people with disabilities don't play games, think again). The AbleGamers Foundation has decided to step forward and provide a rating system for games that blends together a number of factors to determine a score with regard to accessibility. Visual, hearing, motion, closed captioning, speed settings, difficulty settings and even colorblindness options are all taken into account when compiling these scores and reviewing these games."

You also can't upgrade from previous versions of Windows with an OEM copy, nor can you transfer the license to a new machine - it gets tied to the motherboard it's first installed on, and while I've heard that you can sometimes give Microsoft a sob story about the death of your old machine and they'll activate the license on another box, it seems to be a pretty rare occurrence. Basically, OEM licenses are intended to be installed once on a brand new machine, and when that machine dies, the license dies with it.

WoL over wi-fi is incredibly shady at best and impossible at worst. Want to bring all your machines up during off-hours for maintenance? Have fun walking around and physically powering on every one of them.

It's only marked as "critical" so that Windows Update will automatically download it. This makes sure that grandma and grandpa who don't ever download optional updates get a chance to use it. Once it's downloaded, it'll pop up an opt-in window, and if you tell it no thanks, it won't bother you again. Don't really see what the big deal is.

Satellite Debris Forces ISS Crew Into Rescue Craft 171

Muad'Dave writes "CNN is reporting that the crew of the International Space Station was forced to take refuge from a possible collision of the ISS with a piece of space debris Thursday. From the article: 'Floating debris from a satellite forced the crew of the international space station to retreat to a safety capsule Thursday, according to a NASA news release. .. The debris was too close for the space station to move out of the way, so the station's three crew members were temporarily evacuated to a the station's Soyuz TMA-13 capsule, NASA said.'" Update: 03/12 18:42 GMT by T : The original story incorrectly said the ISS had 18 crew members. Luckily for the three in the Soyuz, that was a mistake.

Adobe's ADEPT DRM Broken 273

An anonymous reader writes "I love cabbages has reverse-engineered Adobe's ADEPT DRM (e-book protection). On February 18, I love cabbages released code that decrypts EPUB e-books protected with ADEPT and followed that up on February 25, with code that decrypts PDF e-books protected with ADEPT. On March 4, I love cabbages was given a DMCA take down notice. And there's plenty of evidence he got it right. DS:TNG (Dmitry Sklyarov: The Next Generation)?"
