Spot on. It's just speculation on a massive scale, like investing in some new technology with the potential to change life as we know it, except people are paying for "ether". With stocks, you are buying shares in something that produces tangible value, but with Bitcoin, nothing is created and nothing is destroyed. It makes more sense to save your money until Winter arrives, and then set fire to it...at least then you'd get some warmth by converting currency into BTU's.

Over the past 20 or so years, access to the Internet has morphed from being a plaything for the technically gifted, into a must-have as readily available as electricity, water or gas. It's somethingredients that Spectrum, Comcast or Verizon doesn't want to hear, but the time has come to consider Internet access as a utility.

One thing I have noticed is all the Amazon spam stories on here that mention "Alexa" and "Echo" and obliquely refer to how "successful" they are in terms of sales. The fact is that the Echo and Alexa are a market failure. All the stories they submit won't get around that fact.

I need to know Alexa's middle name. That way she'll know that she'd BETTER answer, or there'll be hell to pay!!

It's possible that "that entire point" might make sense in an alternate reality, but here in the real world, a "protest vote" for Bernie Sanders, Jill Stein or Ralph Nader will ultimately lead to the election of the Republican Party's presumptive nominee, the sociopathic, megalomaniacal demagogue, Donald Trump. During the interval between his inauguration and the next election cycle (hopefully...) in 2020, Donald Trump will have had the opportunity to appoint at least 2, and as many as 4 ultra-conservative Justices to the Supreme Court. Also, the "coattail effect" associated with a Trump victory would enlarge the existing Republican majorities in the House & Senate, which means the abolishment or crippling of many Progressive programs and institutions, including affordable healthcare, the Environmental Protection Act, climate change initiatives, election finance reform, the Clean Water Act, or woman's right to an abortion, to name just a few. It could also fulfill the Right's dream of abolishing Social Security, once an for all. And it's a foregone conclusion that the odds for passing any new Progressive legislation would be zero. In no uncertain terms, it would be a nightmare scenario!

I don't have much of a problem paying for a subscription for software like Office or anti-virus protection, where I expect to see feature upgrades, and I decide to switch to another app, I cancel the subscription and move on. But I DO draw the line with having to make a payment every year for my operating system, which in essence makes my OS a utility, like gas or electric. WHEN WILL IT END!!!
