Comment Tax filling in Poland (Score 1) 277

In Poland the system is similar:
  1. Login to https://www.podatki.gov.pl/pit... (via ID-on-phone app; identity confirmed by your bank or with data from employer provided tax declaration supplemented data by from last year's tax form). The page is available in Polish, English and Ukrainian
  2. Choose tax form (different one for those with their own business and wage workers), the system will suggest proper form based on tax declarations your employer sent.
  3. The form for wage workers, contract workers and people living off social security is prefilled with data from monthly declarations that employers and social security send to tax office.
  4. You can easily add your spouse to the form if you choose to fill your taxes as a family.
  5. You can optionally add details to your form (i.e. if you supplement your income with renting one of your apartments).
  6. You can select NGO that receives 1.5% of your tax.
  7. You confirm your bank account number for tax return (by default it is copied from previous year's tax form).

The best thing: If you won't fill out your tax form before the end of April, tax office will use the data they have, to calculate your tax. They will send tax return if any to the last known account, or send registered mail to inform you of the amount of tax you owe them (but only if you owe more than the cost of registered mail). This way tax office keeps 1.5% that would go to NGOs.

It is not about usability, fancy keyboards became hobby in its own right. I for example type this comment on a Model F replica. It is nicer to type on than stock MX Blues, but not $300 nicer, yet it is a hobby and a whim. Hall-effect keyboards offer some features beneficial to gamers, like analogue keys (speed of movement dependent on travel of WASD keys), and nothing depends on mechanical contact so they can be very smooth. With cheap hall effect sensors, it would be even feasible to replicate Symbolics Space Cadet keyboards look AND feel.

Retirement fund system in many EU countries is basically: "Working age people paying tax to support retired people." This system might make some claims about funds people saved on their retirement accounts, but this are virtual money used to calculate pension, and not real money to be withdrawn in emergency. This means that EU governments need population growth to finance future pensions. Paid maternity and paternity leave are incentives for population growth, and no one cares if they seem fair to single/DINK people.

Garett Kids, it is Polish company that brands Chinese OEM watches with their software for local market. Marketing materials list Kids series of watches as having a game installed, but it is a math quiz, and qualifies more as a teaching tool. Watches have GPS receiver so parent's app can show kid's location. Higher models have additional features like step count, heart rate and body temperature.

Pressure from parents? There is pretty simple technical solution. Smartwatch with SIM card. My kid uses one of those, as they are explicitly excluded from school-wide ban on electronic devices. This smartwatch allows kid to make and receive calls and texts, has neither YouTube/TikTok app nor games available, and I can force it to be locked during lessons. In locked state this watch shows time and allows to make phone-call to a single predefined number (i.e. my phone). Kid can call me if something happens in school, and after lessons I can call him (i.e. if I'm stuck in traffic).
