Comment I was a Jatol customer (Score 3, Interesting) 179

For the most part, they were a decent host. Never had a lot of problems, and service requests were always handled very quickly. Very small company, with el cheapo prices. Yes, I had very recent backups, but that apparently didn't occur to most of the customers using Jatol considering the freaking out on the webhostingtalk forums. I don't think Fastservers is liable at all in this and while I understand that the people who were left hanging want them to do something about it, it's not going to happen, nor should they. The *only* reason this may be an interesting story (and it's not) is that the guy just plain disappeared. Even that doesn't really even warrant this level of attention. Now, if his Enzo is found in a bunch of pieces on the side of a highway, then this might get interesting.

Submission + - Vista Protected Processes Bypassed, Alex is Back

Anonymous Hero writes: Security Researcher Alex Ionescu strikes again, this time with a proof of concept program that will arbitrarily enable and foremost disable the protection of so-called "Protected Processes" in Windows Vista. Another step towards threatening Vista DRM and friends, not to mention towards hardened and even more annoying malware. Normally, only specially signed processes made by special companies (decided by Microsoft) can be protected, but now the bad guys can protect any evil process they want, including the latest version of their own keylogger, spambot or worm, and unprotect any "good" one.

Submission + - Paul Graham: "Microsoft is Dead"

netbuzz writes: "He doesn't mean dead as in six feet under, but rather that the software giant no longer instills the kind of fear — particularly among entrepreneurs — that it did back in the day when it was making road kill out of companies like Netscape. Microsoft obits have been around for almost as long as the company, but Graham's stature, style and devoted following are likely to make this one a classic.

Feed Xbox 360 spring dashboard update leaked? (engadget.com)

Ruh roh, according to MyGamerCard, GameSpot supposedly accidentally posted a video of Xbox 360's spring Dashboard update. No way of knowing if it's legit (it certainly doesn't look a fake), but according to the video:
  • The update hits May 7th
  • Your contact list will now integrate Windows Live Messenger, and show joinable session status
  • Messenger contacts can see what game you're playing, and your gamertag
  • Marketplace will now have its own blade, which will be skinned independent of your theme
  • Users will now get inline achievement updates
  • Low-power download mode and auto-shutdown
  • You can watch partially downloaded movies
  • You can text chat messenger six friends playing games watching movies
  • Multiple tweaks on the user interface
YouTube video after the break. What say ye?

[Thanks, Sherveen]
