Yes, but they can only accept or decline cases that are brought before them. There have been plenty of cases that lawyers for one side or the other DIDN'T take all the way to the Supreme Court because they knew the court wouldn't side with them and they didn't want to establish precedent. The Supreme Court can't force anybody to bring a case to them.

Exactly. We've never made a big deal about our kids swearing. TBH it's pretty funny to ask an 8 year old what they aren't supposed to say at school and they go "shit fuck dammit!" And we haven't had a single call from the school. Of course, the school has a right to enforce rules for kids under their charge. It seems equally obvious that they have ZERO business when it comes to kids time away from school when it has nothing to do with the school. That is for the parents.

Well, it'll probably be "optional", just like Windows 10 was. It'll get more and more insistent and then finally just install itself after a short opt-out popup in the middle of the night. There will probably be proactive steps you can take to avoid the upgrade, but Windows 10 EOL is set for 2025, so while you'll still be technically able to keep Windows 10, there'll be no more security updates.

If it follows the Windows 10 upgrade model, then the pro version will be a "freebie" upgrade from Windows 10 if your current version is pro. Having tried the preview on a VM, I can say that the pro install had an "I don't have Internet" option on install, making local account creation easy. Even on the home version, alt-F4 worked and allowed local account creation as well. Who knows what will make it to the final product...

I don't see how it's so out of touch. Misplaced in this thread, maybe. But a few months ago I set my decidedly not-tech parents with a new PC running Ubuntu. Everything they do is via web browser, so I figured what the hell? I told them if they hated it, it would be no problem to get a copy of Windows instead, but they're doing just fine. Of course, for people who do need Windows only apps, that's not so much of an option, but a whole lot of people could just get off the Windows train and stop having to worry about what Microsoft will pull next.

Comment Apple store tax (Score 2) 154

If Apple hadn't historically used their walled garden to massively screw everybody over with the 30% tax on *ahem* ...all purchases... then this wouldn't be so much of an issue. They've done this to themselves, and now they should be forced to allow competition. They can make it a multi-step process to enable third party app loading. Splash warnings all over, inform users, make them agree to the risks... etc.
