I guess what disappoints me most of all is that America was the first major country truly founded on democratic principals, some of which were, by the way, used as models for reforming many other country's political systems. America can rightly lay claim to be the initiator of the modern democratic movement.
As an American, I do agree with your post. But there is one thing people forget, America is a REPUBLIC, not a democracy. We let our elected officials make all of our decisions for us. No, this is not what the Founding Fathers intended for us, but this is what we ended up with. We certainly started with democracy, but it took a wrong turn.
