Exactly, the model aircraft and the AMA have been around for many decades and one never heard about about drones being sighted at high altitudes and near airport approaches. Since these el cheapo drones have been available so every Tom, Dick, and Harry can run to Mal-Wart and buy one without knowing or caring to know the operational rules, there have been a rash of these events. Personally, I'd like to go way beyond a register and have people tested on their knowledge of the rules that pertain to drone operation prior to launching their drones.

I also wonder if Mr. John Taylor has a vested commercial (aka money making) interest in drone operation.

Science most likely isn't fun in the traditional sense but can made interesting to almost any kid with a bit of curiosity about the world around themselves. However, it extremely easy to snuff out that curiosity and desire. The problem normally isn't the high school instructor but the elementary school instructors that are science and math phobes. Teacher certification tests given to prospective Massachusetts elementary school teachers show the majority are illiterate with respect to STEM related subjects. They're the ones that kill the enthusiasm of students by their lack of being able to explain the physical world around students to the students. It is easy to crush the desire to learn about things when the inquisitive kid asks "Why the sky is blue" and has the teacher tell the kid to go back to his book and stop asking questions (that don't have answers in the teacher's manual.)

The answer to your question is simple. The plant rode out the initial event (earthquake) with no problem. The site's diesel generators did, in fact, start on loss of off-site power and picked up load. All systems functioned as designed post-trip. The diesels and the pumps they powered ran until the diesels were submerged and their combustion air cut off by the tsunami flood. Additionally, not only was the AC power lost when the diesels flooded but the vital DC power was also lost as the 125V DC barttery banks and distribution panels also flooded. There is a reason for putting very heavy battery banks, distribution panels, and pieces of heavy machinery low in a building close to the underlying bedrock. Do you really want something that weighs tens of tons swaying back and forth in an earthquake? The batteries, AC and DC distribution panels, and diesel generators were positioned above the site's design basis flood level as determined by the geologists. The problem wasn't an engineering/design issue but a failure of geologists to recognize a tsunami of the size experienced was possible at the site. If you want go after the technical people, then I suggest the geologists are a better target then the enginners/designers.

According to the Boston Globe this morning, Massachusetts' (you know the state that was the model for the PPACA) Health Connector website has not enrolled a single person since it was revamped to support Obamacare at a cost of $69 million. The entire infrastructure to support the PPACA is apparently riddled with problems that impact not only healthcare.gov but the sites created by states that choose to implement their own. In Massachusetts, 100,000 people have been told their insurance which was in compliance with the state's Minimum Credible Coverage standard aren't good enough now and they need to choose a new health insurance through the non-functional site as the Governor Patrick's administration is not allowing them to remain on their existing policies.
