Thinking beyond portable jukeboxes, devices like the iPod will likely change how we get information in the future. The human eye has a tough time focusing on more than one thing at once. Try reading your monitor and a newspaper at the same time. But the brain can easily handle vision and audio separately. Anyone driving down the road and listening to NPR can tell you that. Audio books, Audio technical journals, Digital newscast, its all waiting for the right medium to put it together with the user. Plug him in, so to speak. Maybe the iPod isnt there yet; but we should expect that kind of functionality out some day. Hell, with the right Open Source community and the technology we already have, maybe its possible now.
