Not sure how your comment applies to my observation. I'm talking about human behaviour, not memory management approaches.

It's called status quo bias. It can be turned around, but it'll take some time.
Rich or poor, we all need water!
STOP WATERING GOLF COURSES! Billions of gallons of water saved. You're welcome.
You're not the only ham "fit" enough to ride a bike for hours. 26.2 miles on a bike is by no means long. There are many of us that bring amateur radio on 200+ mile or multi-day rides covering 1000+ miles. Maybe your attitude was the reason other hams didn't get involved with your ideas.
If you have a loved one that died due to Covid-19, the WHO failed. No one that has suffered a loss is going to think how the WHO can be improved.
Happened to me!
But I can't do that....
I've used HRD for about a year and won't be renewing my license for it. I'm looking at FLDigi & Log4om to replace it. I mostly contest and use N1MM+
Why go to that expense? I went to the local home cheapo store and bought 4 8"x8" concrete blocks for $1 each. Lift your current desk up on the blocks. I've been this way for two years now and it's made a huge difference in sciatica pain but it also improves my concentration when I'm working. Can't really let my mind drift or I'll fall over.
This idea has been around for a very long time:

Green Bay Professional Packet Radio - probably has done the most work in this area.

Amateur Radio packet radio has been around since the late 80s. There's a new approach being tested as a wireless WAN on HF.

Yes, you do need a license, but encryption is not allowed on any amateur frequencies - unless it's the control channel for a ham satellite. ARRL tried to get an exception for ARES to transmit HIPAA data via packet encrypted, but FCC denied the petition. Anyone with a receiver and the Fldigi software can listen in.
