Submission + - EU Rejects Law to Cut Pirates off from their ISP (ispreview.co.uk)

MJackson writes: "Europe has rejected plans to allow ISPs to disconnect users suspected of involvement with illegal file-sharing. In its FINAL vote the European Parliament chose to retain amendment 46 (138) of the new Telecoms Package by a majority of 407 to 57. Amendment 46 states that restrictions to the fundamental rights and freedoms of Internet users can only be put in place after a decision by judicial authorities. However, network neutrality remains unprotected."

Falcon 9 Is Now Fully Integrated At Cape Canaveral 82

RobGoldsmith writes "SpaceX's Falcon 9 is now fully integrated: an update from Elon Musk states 'Falcon 9 is now fully integrated at the Cape! Today we mated the 5.2 m payload fairing to the Falcon 9 first stage. This was the final step in the integration process — one day ahead of schedule.' New images are now available showing the first fully integrated Falcon 9 Rocket. Once the launch mount and erector are complete, SpaceX will transfer Falcon 9 on to the erector and raise it to vertical early in 2009."

Comment Re:Convincing one of safety of small vehicles. (Score 1) 507

If you look at "safety" as only one dimension (weight) than is an SUV really that much "safer?" What if you're rear-ended by a 40,000 pound tractor-trailer? Or worse, T-boned? Of course the SVU is "safer" than a car by this measure, but by how much?

If you take a more holistic view of safety and include the vehicle's manuverability (ability to avoid and accident), plus the driver's skill level, small cars may actually be just as "safe" or even "safer" than an SUV. Inexperienced drivers have a MUCH higher incidence of accidents than experienced ones, and sports cars can corner more sharply and come to a stop in a much shorter distance, whereas SUVs take a much longer distance to come to a stop, and have a nasty tendency to roll if they corner too sharply.

So, take the extra money you're going to have to spend on an SUV and sign-up for some defensive driving classes.
