I wonder what the solution is to get the "I Did My Own Research!" people to understand that just because something was published doesn't make that thing correct.
While we're at it, let's make sure everyone knows that the same applies across the board, even to "respected journals" and mainstream media. As just one critique on the credibility crisis, I recommend this recent book by Jon Jureidini, and it does not stand alone pointing out these issues.
