But why go through the trouble of GPS if you need to locate somebody? It is easy enough to locate a handset (not a person :-) by triangulation and signal strength, which can done by the operator. At least my mobilephone operator here in Finland is providing a SMS positioning service during a trial period. It is possible to "Locate yourself" or to locate a friend (if you have been granted access by him).

I'm not sure about the exact accuracy of the service but here in the Helsinki area it seems to be close enough. And GPS is (promised) accurate to 50m (150ft?) or something?
