Submission + - NTP sues Verizon, AT&T, Sprint Nextel and T-Mo (networkworld.com)
Anonymous Coward writes: "Following its successful patent suit against Research in Motion, NTP has now set its sites on the major telcos. NTP, a patent holding company based in Arlington, Va., is suing Verizon, AT&T, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA for infringing on several of its patents, all of which are related to the delivery of e-mail to mobile devices. In their new round of suits, NTP is alleging that some of the telcos' new e-mail-to-mobile services, such as those delivered by the T-Mobile Wing and AT&T Xpress Mail, infringe upon their patent rights. NTP wants an injunction and is demanding unspecified damages.

Submission + - Dell Linux Details
jon_anderson_ca writes: Dell, through their direct2dell website, has released some details of their soon-to-be-available Linux machines. Among the highlights:
Seems reasonable, but it's too bad that Click2Run isn't in Ubuntu 7.04 for the sake of those wanting to (legally) play DVDs, use AVI files, etc.
- only hardware that works with Linux is offered
- open-source drivers used where possible
- binary drivers for Intel wireless cards, etc.
- no support for media codecs

Wednesday Is Pi Day 282
mrbluze points us to an AP writeup on the upcoming Pi Day — 3-14 (which some will observe at 1:59 pm). The article notes: "[T]he world record [for reciting the number Pi] belongs to Chao Lu, a Chinese chemistry student, who rattled off 67,890 digits over 24 hours in 2005. It took 26 video tapes to submit to Guinness," and mentions in passing a Japanese mental health counselor who last fall recited 100,000 digits, but did not choose to submit proof to the record book.
