No, it is you that doesn't get it.
99% of software consumers could not modify their source code even if you allowed them too. So it is irrelevant to them whether you give them the source code or not.
Now, if you happen to be among the lucky 1% of software consumers that are capable of modifying their source code, you have a choice: either use open source software or use closed source software. If you prefer the open-source product (for _whatever_ reason; ideological, it is superior, you can modify it to suit your needs, etc) then use it. If you prefer the closed source product (again, for _whatever_ reason), then use that.
That's freedom. You have the freedom to choose whether to use open or closed source software, and I have the freedom to produce either open or closed-source software.
If RMS had his way he would take away this freedom from us all. I for one would fight him tooth and nail, even though I happen to like and use a lot of Open-Source Software. Jonathan
