Journal johndiii's Journal: [Beloved] The Lover's Passion 3

Beloved, help me...

        A lover knows only humility

        He has no choice

He steals into your alley at night

        He has no choice

He longs to kiss every lock of your hair
        Don't fret...

        He has no choice

In his frenzied love for you
        he longs to break
        the chains of his imprisonment

        He has no choice

                        -- Jalal al-Din Rumi

...to break my chains - I have no choice but to love you.

  • Rumi!

I try to read at least a little of him every day.

    Great journals.
    • Thank you.

I like Rumi quite a bit. SolemnDragon told me about his poetry a couple of years ago. One of my favorite poems is this verse [slashdot.org]. There is an interesting comment in that JE, by a person more knowledgeable than myself. I have posted a few others:

      The Mythical Lover [slashdot.org]

      A Moment Of Happiness [slashdot.org]

      The Meaning of Love [slashdot.org]

      Come to Me [slashdot.org]

      The Minute I Heard [slashdot.org]
      • I've always loved this little snippet

        Come, come, whoever you are.

        Unbeliever, fire worshiper, come.

Our way is not one of desperation.

Even if you break your vows a hundred times,

        Come. Come again.

I had a few of my favourites typed up to share with people online from a book on my shelf, but I can't seem to find them and finding them on the net always proves frustrating :/ Nevertheless, it was a treat to stumble across Rumi on slashdot of all places :)
