Comment Why must it be a button? (Score 1) 865

A button is either on or off and depends on additional signalling and context to guess what you actually want it to be doing.

Why cant they just make a four position keyless switch?

Why am I now required to shift into park and press the brakes to be allowed to engage the starter?

And if I mistime the brake pressing and get accessory mode, I then have to press it again to get run mode and then I have to press it again to get off mode and then I get to try it again. A bit of a pain.

Sure hope I never have to restart the engine while at high speeds if it stalls out for any reason.

Why do I have to shift into neutral, kill the engine, then put it into park if I want the radio to stay on uninterrupted?

An engine in gear should reignite in the run position if the wheels are moving the it fast enough. Havent tried this one yet.

I doubt modern transmission shift into any drive gear while the engine is off, which would be convenient to park in similar fashion to manuals, if say your parking pin was broken.

NYC has effectively banned gun ownership. That is model Bloomberg would like exported to the rest of the country|world.

If you find that hard to believe, go research the process from the perspective of just owning one in your home. It involves hundreds of dollars on a regular basis, notarized summarization of outcomes of every single time a pair of handcuffs were slapped on you, even in your youth, and after all said and done, they are free to say no for any reason they want.

Suppose you do have one. The restrictions on owning, transporting etc and penalties for infractions, accidental or otherwise can be ruinous.

I recall seeing in a court filing that there are about 50k licensed gun owners in NYC.

Want to guess how many unlicensed gun owners there are?

And this is the "reasonable" access to guns for hunting and self-protecting?

Not too mention that it is clear to anyone with functioning brain cells why the 2nd amendment was written. Hint, the writers had just won a revolutionary and CIVIL war, which would not have happened without personal gun ownership.

But price has nothing to do with it.

The real reason returns are accepted even when non-defective, is because if you dont take non-defective returns, all the returns you get WILL be defective.

And contract laws generally require defective returns be accepted and refunded.

By and large a liberal return policy is the right way to conduct business, if you are interested in staying in business.

To work across the internet this requires that the entire internal network be publicly ipv6 addressed and accessible, at least for the ipsec protocols and no ipv6 nat, which currently isnt expected to be in any real use, but who knows?

I used this software to recover a raid0 and contributed the --noparity option.

Basically, the brute force procedure is to dd out an image of each disk, run the software with correct values, dd out the constructed image to a disk. Or you can mount the partitions directly from the image.

To sum:

a)FAT32 is bad news for data integrity, usability and performance.
b)NTFS only journals metadata, unix/linux filesystems will allow you to journal data as well.
c)Any modern computer/os can read NTFS if not also write it.
d)RAID is not a substitute for backups, preferably offline.
e)RAID1, RAID0 and RAID5 arrays are recoverable without a controller
f)Software raid has plenty of problems and gotchas, if RAID is important to you, then use quality hardware
g)Cheap RAID's can be so bad that only windows detects that you have an array, other OS's just see all drives
