The bigger question will be how or even if they try to drag themselves out of the nasty plot hole they have thrown themselves into

1. If you buy a cheap printer you will likely get what you pay for. 2. You suffered from burns and papercuts from phantom paper jams caused by a bad door sensor switch? 3. You have dealt with printers for decades and still think a low cost or free ink printer will work out? See item 1 above. 4. A subscription for ink cartridges is like mail order sour milk. Why would you do that? I've worked with printer repair for almost 3 decades now. I recently took an HP 8000 series out of service with well over 1 million pages on it because the client wanted something faster. The machine was still working just fine. Feed it toner, replacement rollers, and an occasional fuser and I have little doubt it would have kept running for years to come. If you MUST have color, go with a color laser. They have gotten far cheaper than when they came out. There are only 2 reasons to ever own an ink printer - wide format and specialty inks.

That's an interesting statement. I know a number of people both IRL and in-game who went to Rift and every one of them returned to WOW within 2 months saying that it was no better than WOW and they missed the group of people they played with. I do agree there is a lot of competition, but it's in the "other things to do" category more than the "a better MMO to play" one.

Submission + - Toyota Scion iQ Electric Car To Launch In 2012 (gizmocrazed.com)

Mightee writes: "Toyota's all-electric Scion iQ will be launched next year in the United States, the Japanese automaker officially announced yesterday at annual dealer meeting in Las Vegas.

According to Toyota, Scion iQ can only go 50 miles on a single charge. Because of this, it will be facing tough competition from 73-mile Nissan Leaf and 85-mile Mitsubishi i. The price of Scion iQ will be the determining factor in its success and will also influence potential buyers one way or the other."

Has anyone else noticed that many substances declared as illegal by the US government have been found to have very valuable medical benefits? Alcohol was once prohibited and now you'd be hard-pressed to find a cardiologist who wouldn't suggest a glass or 2 every day for heart health. LSD, cannabis, and even shrooms are very low in toxicity and don't destroy your liver and/or kidneys like most prescription pain meds will.

MasterPatricko writes: Scientists at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany have published a technique to push optical data transfer rates to new levels.
"We demonstrate an optical fast Fourier transform scheme that provides the necessary computing power to encode lower-bitrate tributaries into 10.8 and 26.0 Tbit s-1 line-rate data streams ... To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest line rate ever encoded onto a single light source."
Slashdot readers may find it useful to know that 26Tbps is approximately 0.1 Libraries of Congress per second.

I agree. Airport security is just a very expensive dog and pony show. There have been more incidents of banned items found on aircraft such as guns, knives, etc. than terrorists arrested and the majority of the items were put/left there by...security. We taxpayers are paying insane amounts of money not to arrest terrorists but to get felt up and patted down.

Submission + - New US bill requires ISPs to retain user info (myce.com)

Wesociety writes: The House Judiciary Committee, lead by Rep. Lamar Smith, is preparing a bill which would require internet service providers to retain information about their users to aid in criminal investigations. This particular bill would be a smaller part of a large measure to strengthen sanctions against acts such as child pornography. The most interesting part of this bill however is not who it targets but rather who it does not. The bill would make wireless companies exempt from the requirement to store user data.
