Missouri proposed using propofol, then abandoned the idea after the manufacturer warned of export restrictions that could cause shortages for medical use.

Here are the current guidelines from the American Veterinary Medical Association regarding euthanasia of animals. For pets, the first choice is an intravenous injection of a barbiturate or similar compound, such as pentobarbital.
