Maybe you shouldn't go into movies with a preconceived notion about what they're supposed to be. As far as I'm concerned The Departed is Scorsese's best picture and one of the best movies made in the last 20 years. I've seen it a half a dozen times and every time I enjoy it as much or more than the last.

We had viable ways to intercept ICBM warheads in the mid-70's - not perfect, but plenty good enough to save tens to hundreds of millions of people from the threat. It was abandoned only because it was considered dangerously *destabilizing*, in that someone could launch a successful first-strike, and be at least reasonably immune to the counter-strike.

What?! This is essentially arguing that the US discontinued a defense project because it was "too powerful". Well... I doubt I hear anything dumber today.
