Comment IT processes and HR/change management (Score 1) 108

Linux has been my desktop since 2014 (QubesOS). I used to have a HVM for Windows, only to run MS-Office, but now, with Office365 and le live version, that requirement went away - but that me - at home, on my personal workstations. Though, companies who still have their on-prem AD, SSCM and other tools for IT management, that may not work for Linux, thus requiring a duplication of effort. And to be honest, most non-Windows folks out there are using Apple stuff, and most of places I’be worked with still struggle managing OS X ( e.g., lack of tooling, or incentive, or knowledge ). Other than the technology aspects, companies will also need to invest in retraining, and change management activities. Remember that ~85% of people are less technically savvy than us on this site (some folks we work with in my org are lost when We upgrade Windows major releases, because the start button moved, or was rename, etc). Moving to Linux for any workload which isn’t only email and browser will require some heavy lifting (and also required to deal with the laggards out there, who feel lost when an icon changes colour). Unless a CTO can convince a CPO and CFO that its required and make sense (bottom line), it’s not going to happen.
