First Halophile Potatoes Harvested 117

Razgorov Prikazka writes "A Dutch-based company from Groningen is trying to create a potato race that is able to survive in a saline environment. The first test-batch was just harvested (English translation of Dutch original) on the island Texel and seem to be in good shape. The company states that rising sea-levels will create a demand for halophile crops. I do wonder if one still has to put salt on ones potatoes when they are grown in salt water."

Exchanging Pictures To Generate Passwords 123

Roland Piquepaille writes "Today, Ileana Buhan, a Romanian computer scientist, is presenting her PhD Thesis at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. She is using biometrics to protect confidential information when it is exchanged between two mobile devices. This is a very innovative approach to security. Buhan's biometric application will generate almost unbreakable passwords from photos taken by the connected users. Here is how it works. 'To do this, two users need to save their own photos on their PDAs. They then take photos of each other. The PDA compares the two photos and generates a security code for making a safe connection.'"

No,no - that was the old scheme. Thanks to DVD John (from Norway), they have now found a way to remove the DRM on the power in real time, so instead of going through the HQ of StatoilHydro (a Norwegian company) it may flow directly to the Norwegian power grid from the west coast of Norway, where the wind mills are located.

- jeps (Oh - I'm from Norway, in case you wondered :)
